This story starts with my sister. She lived with us for the summer and it was wonderful. She helped out around the house, she was like a second mom to Saya, and above all she was my friend. Yesterday Saya and I took her to the airport. She is going to school to become a vet. She will have a great time at school, but we are going to miss her so much. I knew it was going to be sad to see her go, so I needed some way to cope—to turn a sad situation into something positive.
I came up with an idea. It is a big room-changer-upper idea. We have four rooms on the second floor of our house. 1. our bedroom 2. small room next to our bedroom (used as a closet) 3. Junji’s studio 4. saya’s room (my sister’s room for the summer) Well, Saya has never slept in her own room. In Japan our apartment only had one bedroom, and when we moved I didn’t want to change things up on her too much. I have been feeling like she is ready for her own room, but the room we had designated as Saya’s was too far away from ours.
This is how I came up with the solution. If we clean out the small room we had been using as a closet, Saya can have a room of her own right next to ours. The room is little, but it has really pretty light and would make a cozy bedroom. With Saya in the small room, and Kelsey off to school, that opens up the room at the end of the hall for my very own studio! Up until now I have been doing all of my work in our dining room, but it got harder and harder to keep everything organized. And I had to clear all of my works in progress off of the table every night before dinner which was a big pain. I think this change will be good for everyone in the family and help our home to function better, and above all it is helping me cope with my sister’s leaving. (Of course she can always have the room back for the holidays or if she ever wants to come and live with us again!)
So here it is—my very own studio, something I have never had before…
