A few weeks ago Saya was so tired after a morning of playing outside that she just came in the house, grabbed her blanket, and fell asleep on the sofa. I didn’t want to disturb her, and I didn’t want her to fall off so I just pushed the two sofas together. It looked so comfortable and inviting that I decided to get in and have a nap with her.
Now on chilly fall days when we don’t have much else going on, we push the sofas together, get lots and blankets, and take a nap together downstairs. We call it our boat.
I love this boat, and I love our naps together. I love the sunlight in the early afternoon. I love to gaze at my daughter while she sleeps.
I am all too aware that moments like this do not last forever. We will not be able to spend our days together like this for very long. She will go to school, make new friends, spend less and less time at home with her parents. She is only little once.
That is why we have to make a boat on a cold day, play at the park after dinner, read extra stories every night before bed. And that is why I try to remember everything about these moments, drink them in, and thank god for them. They are so so good.
This is so sweet. To have a napping place together that is special, she will remember that forever
What a beautiful post! It made me misty eyed.
Yes, it does go by quickly. My seven year old son refuses to stop growing. Beautiful home, beautiful daughter, beautiful home!
Yes… before long they are playing with their own friends, spending time on their own. Ours is already 7, but it wasn’t so long ago when I was watching her tiny breaths while sleeping… cuddling together for a nap!
